Why have more than one AI helper? (Multiple Bots in Grok Bot)

Medium8 min

The short answer

Picture a small office. You wouldn't ask one person to do your taxes, plan your vacation, and write the church newsletter, all in one never-ending chat. You'd want a bookkeeper, a travel planner, and a writer.

Each one knows their job. Each one remembers their own stuff. Each one talks the right way.

Grok Bot works the same way. A Bot is a helper that sticks around. It has a name, a job, its own chat, and know-how that grows over time.1 Grok Bot's own docs say it plainly: "Focused Bots build more useful context than one catch-all Bot."2

Three reasons to split up the jobs

1. Each one remembers its own stuff. Each Bot keeps its own likes, role, and notes on past work. That stays apart from your other Bots.3 So your "Money" Bot won't sneak your budget into the garden club newsletter.

2. Each one gets its own rules. A Bot's rules live in its description. A money Bot might say "never pay or move money; only read and sum up." A writing Bot can draft freely. Grok Bot says to make a new Bot when a job has a different goal, tools, way of working, approval limits, or schedule.4

3. Each one gets its own voice. Your "Family email" Bot can be warm and chatty. Your "Work reports" Bot can be short and crisp. You set it once in the description. No more reminding.

A starter team (pick 2 or 3, not 10)

Bot Job Rule in its description
Paige Household paperwork: bills, receipts, warranties "Only read and sum up. Never pay, cancel, or send anything without asking."
Scout Research before you buy or travel "Always give sources. Never buy or book anything."
Quill Writing: emails, letters, newsletters "Write warm and plain. Always leave drafts unsent for me to check."

Fuzzy jobs like "General Helper" don't work well. A clear job points the Bot in the right direction. It also makes what it learns more useful later.4

How to add a Bot1

  1. Choose New in the sidebar, or press Cmd/Ctrl+N.
  2. Pick Create new Bot.
  3. Open the Bot menu or choose Edit Profile. Set its name, description, and picture.
  4. Give it a real first task with a clear finish line.

(Button names can change a little between app versions.)

Find a new lasting rule or habit? Add it to the Bot's description.1 Keep your list tidy, too. Pin the Bots you use a lot. Hide the ones you don't, without deleting their work.1
