Set up Meta Muse: say hi, give it a job, connect apps safely

Easy15 min

About 10 minutes. Checked against Meta's Help Center on Oct 15, 2026.

What is it? Muse is Meta's personal AI agent. That's a fancy way to say it can do things, not just chat. It can connect to other apps, set reminders, and remember what you've talked about.1

It's free, with a usage limit. Hit the limit? You can upgrade to a paid plan or wait for it to refill.1

Step 1: Sign in1

Use Muse in the app or on the web. Sign in with your Meta account. Don't have one, or don't want to use yours? Make one with Facebook or Instagram, or with an email or phone number.

Privacy heads-up: are your Facebook, Instagram, and Threads accounts in the same Meta Accounts Center? Then those three connect to Muse automatically.2 If you'd rather keep them apart, check Accounts Center first.

Step 2: Say hi1

Muse opens on the Chat tab. Type a message. You don't have to wait for a reply before you add more. Muse can keep up.

Try this icebreaker:

Copy and paste this

I'm new to you. Ask me five questions so you can learn how I like to work. Then sum up what you learned in a short list.

Want to keep topics apart? Start a side chat. Tap the menu icon (top left), then the pencil and note icon. Muse still knows what's going on in your main chat and side chats.1

Step 3: Get a real file1

Upload a file, or ask Muse to make one. It can read, sum up, edit, or create PDFs, spreadsheets, documents, images, and even podcasts. Finished files go in the Library tab. They also show up in your chat.

Copy and paste this

Make a one-page document: a packing checklist for a 3-day trip, grouped by Clothes, Toiletries, and Documents. Use checkboxes.

Step 4: Set a reminder1

Copy and paste this

Remind me Friday at 9 am to call the dentist.

Muse confirms the details. To see your reminders, tap the Assistant icon, then Upcoming. Your dentist will be so proud.

Memory, in one line

Muse remembers your chats on purpose.1 Tell it what you like. Ask it to forget anything you don't want kept.2

Did it work?
