About 15 minutes. Mac, Windows, or Linux. Checked against docs.x.ai on Oct 15, 2026.
Here's the comforting part. Grok Bot doesn't do its work on your computer. It has its own computer in the cloud. The app on your laptop is just the window you talk through.12
So it can't mess up your desktop. And it keeps working even when your laptop is closed. Nice.2
What you need3
- A plan that includes it. That's any paid personal Cursor plan or Cursor Teams. Or a personal SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, or SuperGrok Heavy plan linked to your account.
- The Grok Bot app. It runs on Mac, Windows, or Linux. There are phone apps too.
Step 1: Grab the right download3
Go to the Grok Bot downloads page (x.ai/bot). Which download? Here's the quick check:
- Mac: click the Apple menu, then About This Mac. See a Chip line? Pick Apple silicon. See a Processor line? Pick Intel. Open the file, drag Grok Bot to Applications, and open it. If your Mac double-checks, choose Open.
- Windows: go to Settings → System → About → System type. It says x64 or Arm64. Run that installer. Open Grok Bot from the Start menu.
Step 2: Sign in3
- Choose Sign in.
- A browser window pops up. Finish signing in there. Then hop back to the app.
- Using SuperGrok? Link it when the app asks. On desktop, it's under Settings → Usage & Billing.
Next, the app gives you a quick tour. It asks which tools you use. Relax. Your answers only shape its suggestions. They don't connect or change anything.3
Step 3: Create one Bot with one job3
Pick a suggested helper, or choose Create your own. Give it three things:
- A name: like "Paige."
- A job: "Household paperwork."
- A description: "Summarize and organize documents I send. Always give me a file I can open. Never send, buy, or delete anything without asking me first."
One job per Bot works best. The docs say so too.3 A Bot that does "everything" is like a junk drawer. Stuff goes in. Good luck finding it later.
Step 4: Get your first real file
Drag a document into the message box. You can add up to six files at once, and documents can be up to 25 MB each.4 Then send this:
Summarize this document in five bullets. List every date, decision, and open question in a separate section. Cite the page or section for each item. Do not change the source file.3
Now ask for a file back:
Turn that summary into a document I can download. Use Word format if you can.
Results show up as cards in the chat. Open a card to peek inside. Then save it to your computer.4
